Wedding Trend Watch-Rustic Wood Decor

My last post of Stephanie and Kevin’s wedding at The Chicago History Museum, was the inspiration for today’s trend watch. Stephanie designed great details which included wooded table card holders that added such a cozy touch to her reception. Foodie wedding at Chicago History Museum!

Stephanie and Kevin’s vintage-style wedding was a detail-driven, foodie heaven thanks to the couple’s love for Chicago traditions. After a full Catholic mass at one of my favorite churches, St. Hedwig’s in Wicker Park, we headed to LaSalle street for a few old-school, Chicago backdrops and then walked around the financial district for a few gritty shots on the L and surrounding alleys. Then it was on to North Beach, empty and quiet during late September which was wonderful for pictures. Stephanie and Kevin picked the perfect venue for their vintage vision, The Chicago History Museum, full of great artifacts and signage. The couple wanted the cocktail eats to reflect their favorite foods from Chicago neighborhoods including hot dogs from Wrigleyville, Satay from Chinatown and tortillas from Pilsen. The reception was packed with great family speeches, sounds from the Matt Stedman Band and late night snacks and goodies. Thanks so much to Stephanie and Kevin for inviting me to photograph your wonderful day and continued thanks to Kelly Shaw for just about everything!!

Bridal bouquets are becoming more and more creative by using materials rather than flowers to create a unique detail. Brides are styling their bouquets around themes like winter, summer, vintage, playful or sculptural to add a little something different to the day. Another sugar trend post? Yes!!!! Anyone who has visited my Pinterest boards has seen my intense love for cupcakes, sweets and cakes. Today I am celebrating the trend of beautifully decorated mini cakes, or cupcakes that infuse vintage and pattern design. Instead of buying a huge cake, sweet lovers are buying cupcake versions and having fondant icing molded into some pretty edible desserts. Amy and Jeff’s Rustic Wedding at Independence Grove

Amy and Jeff’s wedding day was full of misting rain and moody fog, which made for perfect light! The couple’s wedding theme was rustic elegance and Independence Grove served as the ideal venue set within a Forest Preserve in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Amy and Jeff’s relaxed style and wanting their guest to be comfortable, was the most important sentiment of the day. The day’s events were full of great Jewish traditions, which are such a treat to photograph and are always incredibly emotional for everyone. Thanks so much to the couple for enduring the rain for our couple pics, and for such a heartfelt celebration. Any many thanks to my trusted second shooter, Kelly Shaw for her hard work and talent!

Wedding inspiration- Something blue, something new

The old wedding tradition of “something old, something blue” is being reinterpreted into modern wedding accessories like shoes, jewelry, or just some inspired whimsy. I love how brides are infusing their own personality into their weddings by looking for small details to remember their day. Trend Watch- Vintage Mason Jars

Mason jars have made a resurgence in the past year as favors, flower containers and hanging lights to add a little vintage to any event. Most jars are available at any flea market and are priced reasonably so you can afford to buy a whole bunch, and spruce them up a bit with your own personal touches. My past clients have used for their flower centerpieces and below are a few whimsy, creative decor ideas for weddings or a special event.

Chicago Family Engagement Session

This family engagement session was full of Chicago’s late Fall colors within the Lilly Pond, and some lakefront frolicking at North Beach. Candace and Ryan wanted to include their daughter MacKenzie in the session, and she was quite the ham! Chicago’s mild weather gave us the chance to have fun around Lincoln Park, and end our session in the lake. This was my first family engagement session, and I have to say, I loved every minute of it. Thanks so much to Candace, Ryan and their beautiful daughter MacKenzie for being so open and super-comfortable the entire day! Can’t wait for your wedding in November!!

Inspiration- Lime Green and Ivory

Today’s inspiration is from Amanda’s lime green and ivory wedding last spring. She infused her lime green color scheme in many of her bright wedding accessories and decor which made for a very festive celebration. The shoes came from Nina, the cupcakes from Luscious Layers in Chicago, the socks were hand-picked by the groom, the tulip bouquet was hand-made and the Chicago L purple line served as our first meet location.
