How you both met: We met in high school, yes we are high school sweethearts!! Staying local for college we both grew together and just continued to strengthen our relationship. 8 years later and here we are today!
Your proposal: Mike asked me on a family vacation. He knows how outspoken my family is so he decided not to tell anyone and keep it a secret. Then, he asked me to join him for a walk on the beach at night after dinner, just me. He popped the question and I immediately called my family in excitement (I think I forgot to even say YES!). We spent the rest of the trip celebrating.
Style/Inspiration for your wedding: Mikie’s family is from Lake Geneva and we loved the idea of a mini getaway for guests. Our favorite season is summer and we both love being outdoors. Having our ceremony outdoors was a must. We are not very traditional and wanted to find a reception that spoke to both our personalities, something different. Our reception is very rustic, it is actually used as a ski chalet in the winter. We fell in love with it! It was the first one we visited! (Common theme in my engagement.. first love.. first venue.. first dress I tried on =) ) So, I wanted to glam the place up a bit. Since the entire reception is dark rustic wood, I brought softer elements to it. Patio lights inside and out and light linen and flowers.
My favorite part of the décor are my vintage touches. Each table will have two brass candlesticks (an assortment of different styles and heights). Also, we rented old white shutter windows for old weddings photos of family members who are no longer with us. Our florals are very whimsical (lots of ivory, blush and greenery). For instance, I did not want to take away from the beauty of August in WI. The reception has beautiful tall windows surrounding the entire reception. The sun will be setting during dinner.. its going to be stunning! Also, we added some draping for a little traditional/ wedding feel and Mike had to have a chocolate table.. who doesn’t love sweets!
