How you both met: We met in August 2014 through a mutual friend when Sam came to town for the Pitchfork Music Festival. We hung out a towny bar while our friend was getting a tattoo and have been inseparable ever since.

Your proposal: This is a different kind of proposal. Within the first week of spending time with Sam I spilled my guts in terms of what I really wanted in life- to get married and have a family like my parents. At the time he was living in Nashville while I was in Chicago. So, we each began applying to jobs in either city. I was really excited about the prospect of getting out of the Midwest winters. But, we ended up in Chicago. We played around with the idea of eloping several times. Due to the desire of not wanting to be married with roommates and wanting to meet his family, we decided to wait. By April we had an apartment of our own and we were planning a trip to South Carolina with Sam’s parents.

Sam being the gentleman he is, asked my parents for permission for my hand in marriage a week before we left. Within three days my mother had scoped out a few venues and had dress appointments made- according to my Aunt Courtney, this runs in the family. Our first morning on the South Carolina coast Sam “officially” asked me to marry him. There was no candle lit dinner with rose petals everywhere or a horseback expedition. We knew from the very beginning and kept an open dialogue of how we wanted to say our vows. Throughout the whole process, which in my mind, is the most romantic thing of all.

Style/Inspiration for your wedding: A smashing party with lots of bourbon, good food and awesome music.
